SHERMAN - Thomas Wayne Barnard, 56, of Sherman passed away Monday morning, July 7 in Sherman. The family will receive friends from 5 -7 p.m. Thursday, July 10 at Waldo Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Athensville, Illinois Cemetery at a later date. The register book can be signed online at waldofuneralhome.com.
Tom was born May 30, 1952 in Jacksonville, Ill. to C.A. "Barney" and Imogene (Stone) Barnard. Tom was previously married to Ann Patton Strohl with whom he had one son Terry Michael Barnard. Tom was a born again Christian of the Baptist faith and had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Ill., and the Athensville, Ill. Baptist Church. Tom enjoyed working as a carpenter, automotive mechanic, bail bondsman, and city employee for the City of Sherman. He had a talent for creating beautiful objects from wood. Tom had an outgoing personality. He loved to tell a story and had never met a stranger.
Tom is survived by son Terry Barnard of Sherman; grandson, Ethan Barnard of Sherman; mother, Imogene Lovekamp and her husband Stanley of Jacksonville, Ill.; sister, Carol Squibb and her husband Jim of Jacksonville, Ill.; nephew, Todd Camden of Dayton, Ohio; two nieces, Jennifer Miller of Alton, Ill., and Cindy Reike of Divernon, Ill.; one step-sister; three step-brothers; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and two very special friends, Niki and Danette Underwood. He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Allen Barnard; father, Barney Barnard; maternal grandmother, Cornelia Stone; paternal grandparents, Russell and Catherine Barnard; and a brother-in-law, John Buker.
