Funeral Services will be conducted for Paul Gerad Ackal, Age 43, at 2:00PM Friday August 25, 2006 at St. Peters Catholic Church with Father Steve LeBlanc and Father Douglas Courville officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Visitation will begin Friday morning at 10:00AM till time of service with a rosary scheduled for 11:00AM. Memorial contributions are to be made to ARC of Iberia.

A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia Paul was active in Special Olympics earning many awards for his achievements. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He had a very loving and outgoing personality and touched many people's lives. Many people in turn loved him.

Special thanks to Dr. Gerald Elias Jr. who was a devoted friend and caregiver and also to the staffs of Iberia Medical Center, Lafayette General Medical Center and Hospice of Acadiana. Thanks also to ARC of Acadiana for the many years of care and devotion to Paul.

Survivors include his mother, Dalel Helo Ackal of New Iberia, brothers Camille Ackal of New Iberia, Elias Ackal III and wife Joanne of Baton Rouge, Kalil Ackal and wife Stacey of Katy, Texas, John Ackal and wife Kelley of Youngsville and sister Rosemary Peters and husband Timothy of New Iberia. Nieces, Haley Ackal of Katy, Texas, Ashley Myers of Lafayette, Katelyn Myers and Alexis Peters of New Iberia and Krista Ackal of Youngsville. Nephews, Beau Ackal of Baton Rouge, Karsen Ackal of Youngsville, and Scott Peters of New Iberia. An aunt Edna Ackal Brower of New Iberia.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elias "Bo" Ackal, maternal grandmother, Rosa John Helo, maternal grandfather, Kalil Helo, paternal grandmother, Mary Abrusely Ackal and paternal grandfather Elias Ackal, Sr.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Ackal, Alfred Ackal, Richard Johnson, Dr. Gerald Elias, Edward Dore and Michael Helo. Honorary pallbearers will be Martin "Marty" LeJeune, Dr. Todd Ackal, Kermit Helo, Henry Helo, Mark Ackal, Richard Gary and Clyde Kimble.

David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
