Norma Corenne Allen Smith, daughter of Allen Roy and Sylvia Lillian (Milner) Bumgardner, was born Aug. 5, 1916 at Madison, KS. Her death occurred June 8, 1991 in Russell Regional Hospital, Russell, KS at the age of 74 years, 10 months, and 3 days.
Corenne, as all her friends knew her, lived all her early life in the Madison, KS area. On August 23, 1934, Corenne was married to Kenneth L. Allen at Emporia, KS and to this union was born one son Larry. In 1937, the family moved to Russell, KS and for many years they owned and operated the Monte Carlo Motel. After the death of her husband Kenneth on May 19, 1968, Corenne continued to operate the Motel for nearly twenty years. Her son Larry died Aug. 22, 1968, a short time after her husband.
Corenne was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star both of Russell. She was very active in all phases of the Eastern Star and had held all the local offices.
On April 6, 199, Corenne was married to Lawrence Smith at Russell and they were making their home on the farm near Gorham, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth and son Larry. Survivors are her husband, Lawrence; two grandchildren: Kennth Irwin Allen of Gillett, WY; and Brian Todd Allen of Augusta, KS; and her daughter-in-law, Judie Walker of Augusta, KS. Other survivors: brother Frank Bumgardner of Eureka; sisters: Jackie Miller of Eureka; Allene Elrod of Brookings, OR; Jean Donahue of Phoenix, AZ; Luann Ehrlich of Colorado Springs, CO; and Helen Woelk of Russell; several other relatives and a host of friends.
