Oct. 14, 1925 to July 12, 2005
His wish was granted. Ivan passed away at home with his family. His illness was prolonged and difficult but his death was peaceful. He almost made it to 80. He was born at Merritt Hospital in Oakland to Pearle and Ivan Brandt and lived in that city until his marriage. He began attending the University of California at Berkeley in 1944 but stopped due to World War II to attend the California Maritime Academy. After graduation he shipped out on the Bartlesville Victory and later on the Fenn Victory. He returned to Cal in 1947 where he met Marva, his wife of 54 years. Ivan graduated with a degree in business in 1951. He was recalled for Korea and served his country again as a naval officer on the AFDB-1. He was eventually stationed in Guam where Marva could join him. After Korea he attended Stanford University, graduating in 1955 with a master's degree. He then studied at the University of California Dental School in San Francisco. His life work became the management of dental x-ray labs in the Bay Area. Ivan and Marva lived in Lafayette from July 1955 to July 1991 when they retired and moved to Lake County. Marva's family had owned Lake County property since the late 1930s so they knew the area and loved it. Ivan supported all veterans organizations with an emphasis on hospitalized veterans. He also supported the Olympic Shooting Team and Ducks Unlimited. His memberships included the NRA (life member), California Maritime Academy Alumni, Classic V-Drive Club, SIRS and TKE Alumni. Ivan leaves his beloved family: wife, Marva T. Brandt; daughter, Chrystine Brandt Higgins and her husband, Jim; daughter, Cheryl Brandt Wirch and her husband, Jeff; and son, Mark A. Brandt. He also leaves his wonderful grandchildren: Heather Higgins, who currently attends the California Maritime Academy and is in Fiji on the training ship; Hilary Higgins, Chrystal Wirch and Dustyn Wirch. All of his family had the opportunity to say "Goodbye."
