Daniel "DK" K. Thomas, 58, of Thoreau, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006 in rural Smith Lake. He was born April 16, 1948, in Barstow, Calif.
"DK" served in the U.S. Army Air Borne Division during the Vietnam Era. He then entered Navajo Law Enforcement and retired after 30 years of service as a captain and received a Medal of Valor.
He was employed as a deputy with the McKinley County Sheriff's Office until his untimely passing.
His hobbies included spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, being outdoors and most of all, riding his Harley Davidson.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Linda Thomas of Gallup; sons Cornelius Thomas of Ramah, Daniel Thomas Jr. of Gallup and Gabriel Thomas of Thoreau; daughter Ina Thomas of Isleta and sisters Marie Charley of Mariano Lake, Effie Davis of Olympia, Wash., Shirley Gibson of Olympia and Helen Grumberg of Salem, Ore.
Visitation is scheduled from noon until 3 p.m. Sunday, may 7, 2006 at Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel and from 11 a.m. until noon Monday, May 8, 2006 at Red Rock State Park.
Services will be held at noon Monday, May 8, at Red Rock State Park with Milt Shirleson and Sister Terry Goodin officiating.
Burial will be Monday, may 8, at Rehobeth Mission Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Merle Bates, Albert Benally, Matthew Hughbanks, Willis Martine, Anthony Sandoval and Christopher Tsosie.
