Alexander,is the 7th child and elder son of Rev.M.C.Conoley.In 1867 he married Virginia D.L.L.S.Thomson (called Jenny), the adopted daughter of Rev.William King Thomson,an uncle of Alexander. 11 children were born to this marriage. 4 died at a young age. He spent his life in the Conoley Community as a farmer and cotton gin operator. He was gregarious, popular, musically inclined and well known in the community, he was a religious and business leader, Sunday school teacher, singing teacher and choir leader for many years. He maintained a pack of hunting hounds, enjoyed horseback riding and sports. A very affectionate person, he loved children, especially his grandchildren and would sit by the hour with a grandchild on each knee while he relateted stories of his early life, the Civil War and the reconstruction days. His home was the center for all of his descendants, young and old,for reunions or in time of trouble or crisis.Physically he was a tall man of medium build, bright blue eyes and was completely grey haired by the age of 35.He wore a moustache and beard through out his life. From a gin accident he suffered a badly mangled hand but refused amputation.Thereafter his hand was badly crippled. He was a staunch Presbyterian and his wife was a staunch Methodist. Each Sunday, barring illness,he loaded his wagon with his family and attended church located aproximately one mile from his home.At the conclusion of services, with his love of people,he would stand at the door and invite the congregation home for dinner and visiting. He helped build the Church and was a trustee through his lifetime. Losing his wife by death in 1924,he lived with his eldest daughter and visited each of his children wherever they lived. He died in 1931 and was buried in the Conoley Cemetery with his wife, his father and mother and four of his children who had died at a young age.
