He was born in Lawrence, Mass., in 1933, the son of John and Rita Banks Sr. He graduated from Essex County Agricultural School.
In 1985, he married his wife, Shelby, in Kingfield.
John worked at H.K. Webster Company as a truck driver, M. O'Mahoney Company as a yard foreman and at Rocco Zambino & Sons as a truck driver.
John enjoyed woodworking, homing pigeons and snowmobiling. He was a member of Merrimack Valley Flying Club, Sno-Wanders, the Greater Boston Homing Pigeon Concourse, the Maine Pigeon Association and the National Birmingham Roller Club.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Debra Banks; and his son, John Banks.
