J.C. "Pug" Buchanan, 81, of Wright City, died Friday in Wright City.
He was born May 4, 1910, in Millerton, and was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County. He was affiliated with the Church of Christ. He and Charlene Ray were married in 1935 in Idabel. He was a Green Thumb worker for Wright City community building and had worked 24 years with Weyerhaeuser and Dierks Lumber Company. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Beverly Buchanan Johnson in November 1990.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Buchanan of Wright City; one son, Jimmy Ray Buchanan of Poway, Calif.; two daughters, Teresa Buchanan Tyler and Glenda Buchanan McKee, both of Valliant; two brothers, Hal Buchanan of Stillwater and Steve Buchanan of Creed, Col.; three sisters, Mary Jo Taylor of Willis, Texas, Sue Buchanan of Valliant and Nora Henry of Atlanta, Texas; five grandchildren, Anita Gail Lindley, Jeffery Johnson, Tyson Buchanan, Tammy Studer and Vance Tyler; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wright City Assembly of God with Rev. Jimmy Smalling officiating. Burial will be in Wheelock Cemetery under direction of Norwood-Coffey-Leonard Funeral Home of Idabel.
