Hon. C.C. Campbell, who was the founder of Grant Park, died Nov. 23, 1905, at the hospital in St. Louis, Mich. About two weeks ago, while walking along the streets in Chicago, he was stricken down with Bright's disease, from which he had been suffering for some time. Although every attention was given to him, he gradually grew worse until death came.
Clinton C. Campbell was born in Fountain county, Ind., June 6, 1837, grew to manhood in the Hoover state. In 1850 the family moved to Yellowhead Township and in 1859, he was married to Miss Olive Curtis at Momence. To them five children were born, four daughters and one son. His son now resides at Grant Park, also his daughters, Mrs. W.H. Burchard, Mrs. L.C. Streeter, live in Grant, and Mrs. J.C. Baily and Mrs. A. Plant, live in Chicago.
C.C. Campbell was a man of great natural ability, and when in his prime, had splendid business capacity. At one time he was the most prominent grain buyer in Eastern Illinois.
Mr. Campbell was for many years prominent in Kankakee county republican politics and represented this district on the state board of equalization from 1876 to 1880. In the latter year he was candidate for congress against L.E. Payson of Pontiac, who defeated him for the nomination.
The funeral was held on Saturday, at the M.E. Church, conducted by Rev. J.G. Evans of Kankakee.
Many old friends were present at the funeral. The remains were laid to rest in Union Corners cemetery.
