~ Kate Wendfeldt Obituary ~
Kate Marie Wendfeldt, 61, wife of The Rev. Stephen Wendfeldt, former pastor of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Longview, died in San Diego, Calif., Sept. 25, 2008, after a battle with cancer.
Born in Duluth, Minn., Aug. 18, 1947, to George and Irene Johnson, she graduated from the University Minnesota with highest honors, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree and Teaching Certificate.
She married Steve Wendfeldt March 29, 1969. They have two daughters.
Kate was a technical writer, church administrator, newspaper editor, high school teacher and paralegal. In 1985 she received a national award for Outstanding Technical Writing. Recently she completed a book on the Saints, for publication in 2009.
A woman of profound faith, she was dedicated to serving her Lord and community. Tireless in her work for others, she held many positions in ministry and mentored many in their faith journeys. She was a member of the Daughters of the King and PEO. Her true life work was serving her family, especially her grandchildren. She often said that with them, she found what God had prepared her to do. Nothing gave her greater joy. The fullness of Kate's life is often sought but seldom achieved. Her generosity and abundant joy touched everyone and made our lives rich.
Kate is survived by her husband; two daughters, Heather Wilson (Carl) and Holly Locke (Greg); five grandchildren; and her father.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 334 14th Street, Del Mar, CA. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at All Saints' Episcopal Cemetery in Oceanside, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Kathleen Wendfeldt Memorial Fund, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 336, Del Mar, CA, 92014.
