Fred Blandin, age 63 years, of Lakeville, formerly of Middleboro, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at the McCarthy Care Center, Sandwich, after a battle with cancer. Born in Alexandria, Va., he was the son of the late Dana Alden and Margaret (Suenell) Blandin. Fred had been employed as a union grocer at Stop & Shop, New Bedford, for over 14 years. He was an avid gun collector, and also collected Civil War era images, as well as old fire equipment. He was a Civil War buff and was a member of the 35th Virginia Infantry Re-enactors and a founder of the 22nd Mass Infantry Civil War Re-enactors. Fred was the last surviving member of his family, and is survived by his longtime companion, Christine Day of New Bedford; and close friends, Rick and Louise Janhola of Bryantville. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 6-8 p.m. in the Egger Funeral Home, 61 Pearl St., Middleboro. A graveside service will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m. at Central Cemetery, Middleboro. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Civil War Trust, P.O.
