Glen Briles, 97, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Southwest Medical Center. He was born Sept. 7, 1910, to Earl and Ella Briles on the family farm near Adams. He married Ruby Webb in 1936. He went to Appleton Country School one mile from the family farm. He graduated from the eighth grade. His father was a traveling preacher and turned the family farm over to Glen and his mother when he was 18. When Roosevelt became president and government jobs were created, Glen worked for the Public Work Administration (WPA) building Highway 3 from the Beaver County (Okla.) line to east of Guymon, Okla. He worked in eastern Oklahoma for one year before moving to the Briles Farm southeast of Adams. He served on the Adams School Board for 16 years. He worked for the Texas County ASCS office for 10 years, served 38 years on the Texas County Conservation Board and 12 years on the Oklahoma Economic Development Board. He was also a member of the Tyrone Masonic Lodge and became a lifetime member of the Hooker Masonic Lodge. He was a Master Mason for more than 60 years. He served five terms as grand master. He became scoutmaster for Adams Troop No. 54 in 1952. He served this position for 14 years. He became active in the scout movement throughout the High Plains District. He attended national conventions in Virginia and Colorado. He took scouts to Canada Wilderness Survival Canoe trips. He served on leadership training and camping committees. He was a Woodbadge member with three beads and served in Woodbadge training in New Mexico. After turning 65, he was appointed to the National Advisory Board for Boy Scouts of America. He attended Union Center Church, two miles from the farm. He served on the church board, taught Sunday School classes for teen and adults and was Sunday School superintendent. He served on the Church Annual Conference for many years.

❏ Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at South Church of God in Liberal. Burial will be at Union Center Cemetery near Adams.
