Polly Ann Banks, 92, of 14th Street died at 11:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
She and her husband owned a grocery story in Rugby for 17 years, and she retired in 1967 from Roviar Sportswear Co.
She was a member of Community Baptist Church and the Senior Center Kitchen Band. She also did volunteer singing at local nursing homes.
Funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed and Jewell Chapel on 25th Street, with the Revs. Steve Day and Jay Ingram officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Hawcreek Baptist Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Bartholomew County.
Mrs. Banks was born in Whitesburg, Ky., Feb. 20, 1905, the daughter of Wilburn and Hannah Ison Hampton. Her first husband, John Brashears, died in 1927. She married Arthur Banks in 1936. He died in January 1969.
She is survived by sons, Paul Brashears of Little Rock, Ark., Carl B. Banks of Columbus, Tony Banks of Duluth, Ga., and Jack Banks of Port Orchard, Wash.; daughters, Ruby Brashears, Bessie Amburgey and Estelle Scheidt, all of Columbus; sisters, Lona Ison of Jackson, Ky., and Thelma Ison of Lexington, Ky.; 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Harlin Banks; a daughter, Inez Hogg; three infant children; brothers, Dewey, Harvey and Lester Hampton; and sisters, Ida Frazier, Ada Brashears and Crissie Blair.
