Robert D. Kirchhoff, 80, of Effingham died at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Effingham.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church (Blue Point), rural Altamont. Burial will be in the church cemetery with graveside military rites. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Mr. Kirchhoff was born Sept. 21, 1928, in Altamont, the son of Otto and Louise (Vandre) Kirchhoff. He married Violet Baumann July 2, 1950, at St. Paul Lutheran Church (Blue Point), rural Altamont, and she survives. He retired from Fedders after 48 years as a warehouse supervisor. Mr. Kirchhoff was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Effingham, a life member of Effingham American Legion Post 120, was treasurer of Effingham County Republican party and a Republican precinct committeeman. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife Violet of Effingham; son, Mike (wife, Lynn) Kirchhoff of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Amy and Cari Kirchhoff, both of Kansas City, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents.
