Kennie Alaniz Alvarez, 30, passed away April 15, 2012, with her family by her side in Rio Grande City, Texas. She was born May 15, 1981, in McAllen, Texas to Refugio and Celina Alaniz. Kennie was raised in San Isidro, Texas. She graduated from San Isidro High School in 1999. Kennie was a proud graduate of Texas A&M University- Kingsville where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 2002.

She began her career in education as an elementary teacher in Rio Grande City. In 2004, she met and married the love of her life Javier M. Alvarez, Jr. They made their home in Rio Grande City where they were blessed with their beautiful daughter, Jennie Karlene. Kennie was an extremely inspirational woman who touched many lives. She devoted her life to her family and friends, especially her daughter. Jennie, who never left her side.

Kennie is survived by her husband, daughter, and parents. She is also survived by her sister, Karmen Alaniz, maternal grandmother, Josefina T. Pena, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 10:30 AM. Interment followed at Rio Grande City Cemetery.
