Working on trying to find out who she is?

The surname of Ramos is on the headstones that are surrounding her.

Clayton Hale and his wife Abba Weld are in
Fort Reily, Davis, Kansas, United States 1880 census
A servant by the name of Caroline Hall is on the same page.

"Caroline" and Col Hale
I noted your entry for Caroline, the servant of Clayton Hale. I am a descendant of Hale's brother, T Judson Hale of Galesburg IL.

The Clayton Hale referred to on the monument is not Clayton Bethune Hale. Lt. Col. Hale had no middle name. He was born 7 Jan 1832, in Smithfield PA, the son of John E. Hale and Rebecca Wood Hale. He moved to Knoxville IL with his brother, TJ Hale, and was a lawyer there until the Civil War. He became a Captain in the 59th IL Inf at the outbreak, later being named Lt. Col., and at times leading the 59th in battle. After the war, he reenlisted as a Lt. and served in MS and LA during Reconstruction and later in the West. He retired on disability in 1890 and he died in Des Moines IA on 19 Feb 1896.

His first wife, Abba Weld Gilbreath, died in Boston in 1887. They had no children. He married Kate Duff of Des Moines and she survived him.

I do not know who Caroline was. But the connection to Auburn is that Clayton's brother was James Ellery Hale (1824-1895), a distinguished lawyer and politician, a resident of Auburn and current resident of Old Auburn Cemetery.

I hope this might be helpful to you.
