Augustus was a talented builder. With the help of his brother, Edward, he built a house on Banwell Road at Sandwich.
In 1849 they built a home of French Canadian log construction on Huron Church Road. This Banwell homestead was established as a National Historic site. It was in this historic homestead that Augustus and Mary raised their eight children.
