Charles Edward Battle, son of Albert and Mary Jane (Petty) Battle, was born November 24, 1952 in Sanford, North Carolina where he grew up and attended school. He was a 1971 graduate from Deep River High School in Sanford, North Carolina.

On May 28, 1998, Charles was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Poole in Hardin County, Kentucky. They shared over eight wonderful years of marriage together.

On February 18, 1981, Charles enlisted in the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his retirement on February 28, 2003 after 21 years and 8 months of service as combat engineer. He had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. For his faithful service, Charles was awarded several medals and commendations; some of which include: Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal (3rd Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal w/3 Bronze Service Stars, Non-commissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th Award), Kuwait Liberation Medal, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, and the Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Pistol Bar.

After retiring from the Army, Charles and Sharon enjoyed being outdoors while fishing together. Charles also liked to sing and was gifted in being able to play several musical instruments.

Charles passed away Monday morning, April 30, 2007 at the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri at the age of 54 years, 5 months and 6 days.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Sharon; five children: Adrean Denise Battle Chapman of Alexandria, VA, LaToya Patrice Battle of Murray, KY, Karnina Dominique Dargin of Sunset, LA, and Shemekii Davis and Jibali Poole both of Louisville, KY; his parents: Albert and Mary Jane Battle of the state of North Carolina; five siblings: Alice Davis, Stella Headen and John, George, Donnie Battle all of the state of North Carolina; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 7, 2007 in the Divine Deliverance Church Ministries of Waynesville, Missouri with Bishop Dr. Clifton J. Ruggs, Jr. officiating. Pastor Vincent Hodge read several passages of Scripture. Evangelist Shalene Dunmore sang "God Has Smiled On Me" and "I Can Only Imagine". Several friends and family members shared their memories of Charles. Serving as escorts were the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Serving as honorary escorts were Bro. Chard Aaron Davis, Elder Robert Harris, Bro. Gregory Dunmore, Pastor Vincent Hodge, Deacon Kerry Freeman and Bro. Roosevelt Wilson.

Burial with military honors followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.
