Thomas David Atkins was born May 14, 1892, son of John Edward Atkins (1873-1952) and Ophelia E. Norman (1876-1967). By 1900, Thomas' parents were divorced. His father married Ethel Crawford in September 1900, and his mother married Arthur Mathias Hampton in September 1903.
Thomas registered with the Five Civilized Tribes on September 25, 1902, at age 8, stating that he was 1/16th Choctaw by Blood. His Dawes Roll Number is 9759. Thomas' father, John E. Atkins, age 29, also registered, as well as Thomas' brother, Willie E. Atkins, age 6; and his half-sister, Tennie Lee Atkins, age 1.
On September 1, 1912, in Bryan County, Oklahoma, Thomas married Ivy Ellen Ensey, who was born in 1887 in Oklahoma. Thomas and Ivy had one son, Arthur Clarence Atkins, born December 11, 1914 in Oklahoma.
Thomas died at age 23 on October 11, 1915, and was buried in the Silo Restland Cemetery in Silo, Oklahoma (Bryan County). Ivy died in 1965 in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma.
