Elsie Roselyn Johnson, the daughter of Ruben and Frieda (Lockman) Evenson, was born August 3, 1923 at home in Barsness Township, Pope County, Minnesota. She was baptized into the Methodist faith, and later confirmed at the East Zion Lutheran Church. Elsie grew up on the family farm and after attending country school, she went on to graduate from Starbuck High School in 1942. She worked at a grocery store in Glenwood and met Kenneth Johnson. They were married on August 8, 1944 at the East Zion Lutheran parsonage. They began farming in Rolling Forks Township where they built their lives and raised their family. Elsie enjoyed gardening and bird watching. She loved to be outside doing yard work, or going for a long walk. Elsie was also very active in the Ladies Aid at church. Her life revolved around the two most important things in her life: her family and activities around the farm.
Elsie is survived by her husband Kenneth; four children, Jerry and wife Rosalyn of Glenwood, Robert and wife LaDonna of Willmar, Nellie and husband Jerry Kratzke of Vergas, Minnesota, and Keith of Starbuck; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Hall and Francis Dalluge, both of Riverside, California; brother, Richard and wife Avis Evenson of Brooten; three sisters-in-law, Rosella Evenson and Ruth Disrud, both of Starbuck, and JoAnn and husband Jerome Biaskowski of Sauk Centre. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles, brothers-in-law, Ortman Disrud and Sterling Hall; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Norma Johnson.
