Mrs. Frank (Joan) Adelman passed away, after a short illness, on Thursday, November 19, 2009, in Oklahoma City. Joan was born in Lindsey, Oklahoma, July 18, 1921 and grew up in Pauls Valley and Lindsey, Oklahoma. She was a graduate of Wesley Nursing School. She married Simpson Allan Bull, and, while he was serving as a Marine pilot during WWII, she served as a Navy nurse in California. Simpson Bull was killed in action in the South Pacific in 1945, after which she returned to Oklahoma City. While working as a nurse in Oklahoma City, she met and married Dr. Frank L Adelman, and, after living in Topeka, Kansas; Vinita, Oklahoma; and Ft. Supply, Oklahoma, they eventually settled in Enid, Oklahoma, in 1956, where they raised their eight children. After Dr. Adelman's retirement from private medical practice in 1996, they moved to Oklahoma City. While living in Enid, Mrs. Adelman was active in St. Francis and St. Gregory's Alter Society and Study Club, Garfield County Medical Auxiliary, Chapter FA, PEO, Hospice, Our Daily Bread. She volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital and worked in Dr. Adelman's medical practice for many years. She also served as a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Mrs. Adelman was predeceased by her son, Bart Adelman; and her husband, Dr. Frank L Adelman; and brother, Brice Harris. She is survived by her sister, Jimmie Lee Evanson; and children: Al Adelman (Chester, MD), Chris Adelman (Cleveland, OH) Carolyn Adelman Hicks (Dallas, TX), Hal Adelman (Kerrville, TX), Mike Adelman (Yukon, OK), Becky VanPool (Okla. City, OK), Alice Adelman Rose and (Bedminster, NJ). She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 2400 W. Hefner Rd., Okla. City, Mon., Nov. 23, at 10:00 AM; and to follow, graveside service at 3:00 PM, Calvary Enid. Sevices are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. There will be a memorial service at the Canterbury Chapel, 1404 NW 122nd, Okla. City, Sun., Nov. 22, at 4:00 PM. Joan Adelman is laying in rest at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home, Enid, OK, 73701.
