Mary F. Biela, 89, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2007, in Floresville.

Born Nov. 26, 1917, Mary was the oldest of six children of Stanik and Mary Moczygemba.

Mary loved to work; she was part of the original owners of East End Glass Co., later Biela Glass Co. This member of St. Gerard Parish and Altar Society loved to garden and cook, and she made the "best iced tea in town."

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Joe D. Biela Sr.; a grandson, baby Joseph D. Biela III; her father- and mother-in-law, John and Gertrude Biela; sister Jo Ann Austin; five brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and two nieces.

A sweet loving mother and grandmother, Mary is survived by her son, J.D. Biela Jr. and wife Wilannette of San Antonio; daughter Mary Jo Karam and husband Jack of Floresville; grandchildren Michelle and Glen Hagen, Lisa and Mike Laskowski, Susan and Rene Bocanegra, J.J. and JoAnn Sturm, Jeff and April Sturm, and Jason and Crystal Sturm; great-grandchildren Brittany Beckingham, Kayla Hagen, Michael and Lindsey Laskowski, Ryan and Rylee Bocanegra, Johnna and Jaycee Sturm, and Laylin and soon-to-be baby Sturm; stepgrandchildren Paul and Michelle Karam, Jackie Karam, Sheila and Jose Nunez, Leah and Scott Stephenson, and Priscilla and Edwin Frieda; and stepgreat-grandchildren Maya, Sammy, and Erica Nunez, Mike, Rhyley, Jack, and Robert Stephenson, and Logan and Chance Frieda. She is further survived by a brother, Stanley Moczygemba and wife Leona; sisters Gracie Siefert, Loraine Stobbs and husband Joe, and Elaine Pawelek and husband Chester; sisters-in-law Regina Rapstine, Agnes Dugi, and Cecelia Biela; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary was recited in St. Gerard's Catholic Church in San Antonio on Sunday, March 18, at 7 p.m., with visitation in the church an hour before the rosary.

Following further visitation at 10 a.m. Monday, a funeral Mass was celebrated in the church, with interment following in St. Jerome's Catholic Cemetery in San Antonio.
