COOKEVILLE Funeral services for Rev. Andrew J. Albert, 85, will be held in First Presbyterian Church Tuesday, April 24, at 2 p.m. Additional Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. tonight. Burial will be in the Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Albert died Saturday (April 21, 1990) at Parkview Medical Center in Nashville.
A native of Louisiana, he was the son of the late Lovincy and Zaulma Barrios Albert. Rev. Albert, a minister of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., was ordained in 1950 and spent all of his pastoral ministry in small churches in the Middle
Tennessee area. He was pastor of Smyrna Presbyterian Church near Byrdstown, Huntsville Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Church in Lancing. He was pastor for many years at the Presbyterian Churches of Bloomington Spings, Union Grove, Post Oak, Granville and Double Springs, as well as supplying many other small churches.
As a young man he came from Louisiana to Alpine Presbyterian School where he spent six years learning English and preparing for Christian service. Rev. Albert was commissioned in 1931 as a Sunday School missionary, serving in this capacity in rural Kentucky by starting Sunday Schools and holding vacation Bible schools. For many years he had a local radio program in which he taught the Sunday School lesson.
His family includes his wife, Inez McDonald Albert of Cookeville; son and daughterinlaw, David and Sara Albert of Brentwood; daughterinlaw, Joann Dietary; two brothers, Albert of Kansas City, Missouri, and Linzy Albert of Memphis; one sister, Elsie Tweedy of Bogalooza, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Todd, Chris and Jeff Albert, Christopher Adams and Jennifer Albert; one great granddaughter, Kristen Albert.
He was preceded in death by one son, Terry Albert.
