Fashionable English surgeon, F.R.C.S.Eng., F.R.C.S.Edin. He was a conculting surgeon in west London and to St. Marks Hospital and among his clients was Edward, Prince of Wales. Later in his career his made friends with many noble people. Through his friendship with the Duke of Hamilton he was entroduced to the Duke of Edinburgh. When the Duke became Duke of Saxe-Coburg of Gotha he appointed Cooper as his Surgeon in Ordinary. In 1874 he was present at the marriage of the Duke in St. Petersburg, as medical attandant to the then Prince of Wales, the present Majesty. He was later knighted by King Edward VII. Through his connections with the Russian Court, he received from the Czar the honour of knighthood of the Russian Order of St. Stanislas.
