THE BOLIVAR BREEZE Th. 7/28/1927 p1c7

Sudden Death of Rufus Middaugh (R.M.) Brown

Richburg Young Man Succumbs, Following an Operation for Appendicitis at Buffalo Hospital.

Richburg, July 27, (Special to The Breeze) -- The many friends of R.M. Brown, formerly of this village, who recently moved to Bolivar to live in the Browning Apartments, were deeply grieved to learn of his untimely death which occurred at the Sister's hospital in Buffalo this Wednesday, morning at 6:13 o'clock. He went to the hospital on Saturday morning where he was operated on for acute appendicitis at 3:00 o'clock that afternoon. Little hope was held for his recover following the operation. However, his condition remained about the same until Tuesday evening when it took a sudden change for the worse.

The body was taken to Wellsville today where the funeral services will be held at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Willett Ward on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock.

The burial will be in the Richburg cemetery.

Mr. Brown was born in Richburg on June 23, 1902, where he had lived all of his life, with the exception of two years when he resided in Tulsa, OK. For the past three years he had been employed by Lewis M. Browning, automobile dealer. Since last April he had been in charge of the Hudson and Essex Sales and Service station in Bolivar where he was a member of the Macedonia Lodge No. 258, F. & A. M. He was a valued employee and a decidedly popular automobile salesman.

Mr. Brown also was interested in the oil business at Richburg where his grandfather, the late Crandall Lester, was one of the pioneer oil producers in this field.

In September, 1926, Mr. Brown was united in marriage to Miss Dorothy Ward, daughter of the late Willett Ward of Wellsville. Besides his wife, Mr. Brown is survived by his mother, Mrs. Roena (born Lester) Brown of Richburg; his father R.L. Brown and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Brown of Riverside, CA.

NOT IN OBIT: Parents were Rufus Lincoln (R.L.) Brown and Roena (born Lester) Brown. Rufus Middaugh (R.M.) married Dorothy Ward on 9/4/1926 in Wellsville, NY. They had no known children.
