Earl G. Plapp, 83, of Aurora, IL formerly of Hinckley, IL, passed away Monday, February 11, 2008 at the Countryside Care Center in Aurora, IL. He was born August 30, 1924 in Waterman, IL the son of Roy J. and Maude (Rishel) Plapp.
He married Betty Carlson on June 24, 1945 in Big Rock, IL and they became parents of Sherilyn, Janis, and Merwin. In 1962 their nieces, Sharon and Charlene Carlson joined the family.
Earl attended a country grade school and graduated from Hinckley High School Class of 1942. He furthered his education at Kishwaukee and Waubonsee College. Earl lived and worked on the family farm for 47 years. He owned his own trucking business for several years. When he moved to Hinckley, IL in the early 70's, he became Superintendent of Public Works and became involved on the state level with Water & Waste Water Management. He was a charter member of the Hinckley Lions Club. Earl was a very active member of the Hinckley Volunteer Fire Department and a National EMT for many years. When he moved to Florida he worked for Quality Water Company and Winn-Dixie grocery chain for 8 years. He became an active member of the Okahumpka Volunteer Fire Department and Hospice. Earl enjoyed Steam engines and spent many happy days volunteering at the Steam Power Shows at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Sherilyn (Chuck) Stroud of Ingleside, IL, Janis (Patrick) Finley of Big Rock, IL, Merwin Plapp of Maple Park, IL, Sharon (Bob) Rissman of Waterman, IL; eight grandchildren, Christopher Stroud, Ryan (Taryn) Finley, Megan Finley, Carmen Plapp, Adam Grayson, Jody (Kyren) Helgesen, Cassie and Dustin Rissman.
He is preceded in death by two sisters, Edith and Vera; his niece, Charlene (Carlson) Seberg; and his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2008 at Grace Fellowship formerly Pierce United Methodist Church, 17081 Owens Rd, Maple Park, IL with Rev. Wendy Witt officiating. Burial will follow services at East Pierce Cemetery in rural Maple Park. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services at the church.
