Ruth L. Riedelsperger, 98, of Hinckley, Ill., passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at Shabbona Health Care Center in Shabbona.
Born Oct. 1, 1909, in Sycamore, she was the daughter of Edward and Flossie Wellander. Ruth was united in marriage on March 25, 1950, in Sycamore to Walter Riedelsperger; they spent the next 51 happy years of their lives together until his passing on Sept. 20, 2001. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Riedelsperger was a longtime member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Hinckley, where she was a member of its Dorcas Circle. She served her country proudly as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Her tour included service in Memphis, Tenn., Corpus Christi, Texas, and Pensacola, Fla. Ruth was a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston. She was employed by both St. Joseph Hospital in Aurora and Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich in their Medical Records Departments. Ruth was a member of the Sycamore Garden Club. She also worked with her husband, Walter, on the family farm.
She is survived by a son, Mark (Sandy) Riedelsperger of Hinckley; three granddaughters, Rachelle Riedelsperger of Birchwood, Wis., April (Ron) Hughes of Roscoe and Elzona Riedelsperger of Rockford; three great-granddaughters, Madeline and Layla Hughes of Roscoe and Savannah Riedelsperger of Birchwood; a brother, John (Elaine) Wellander of DeKalb; two step-grandchildren, Kyle and Tyler Durancik; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Riedelsperger; a brother, Ralph Wellander; and two sisters, Ruby Merserve and Esther Wesley.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at St. Paul?s United Church of Christ in Hinckley. Interment will follow at Pierce Cemetery in Maple Park. Friends may visit from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Nash-Nelson Memorial Chapel, 141 N. Maple St. in Hinckley.
