Phyllis Jo Acuff, 60, died February 28 in Presbyterian Hospital, Oklahoma City. Interment was at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Gene Spillman officiating. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Orlando gym with Dr. Lloyd Taylor and the Rev. Ed Stanley officiating. Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater was in charge.
Memorials to the P.T.L. (Praise the Lord) memorial fund may be made in care of the Orlando Christina Church, Orlando.
She was born to Herb and Esther Miller Surface January 9, 1927 in Cherokee. She married Dr. Doyce Smith July 28, 1946, in Cherokee. He died March 30, 1958. She married Gene Acuff June 3, 1962 in Cherokee.
She grew up in Cherokee and graduated from Cherokee High School. She attended Phillips University, Enid, and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology education. She taught at Byron-Driftwood High School, Driftwood, Houston Texas and in Cherokee. She moved to Stillwater in August 1952. She was a homemaker, associate pastor and minister of music and education. She co founded the PTL Invalid Garment Manufacturing.
Survivors include her husband Gene; two sons Rod W. Smith , Duncan and G. Taylor Acuff, Stillwater ; one daughter Jo Shelly Friedemann, Stillwater; stepmother, Helen Surface, Cherokee; four grandchildren and two aunts.
