Reba June Smith Gillespie, 74, formerly of Crab Orchard, died suddenly Thursday, March 16, 2000, at her home. Born July 2, 1925, in Affinity, she was the daughter of the late Foster and Bertie Richmond Smith of Sophia. Mrs. Gillespie was a 1942 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Beckley, and she retired from the Raleigh County Assessor's Tax Department in 1984. She was a regular volunteer for the Pickaway County Senior Center Association, including the weekly Alzheimer's program. She was a loving, dedicated mother, an active volunteer, a gracious friend and lived her life as a devoted Christian. While living in Ashville, she was a regular attendee of Scioto Chapel UMC, and while living in Crab Orchard she was a regular attendee of Sophia First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Gathern "Cotton" Gillespie, in 1990. Survivors include three children, Gathern F. Gillespie of Jacksonville, Fla., Gayla D. Callahan of Clifton Forge, Va., Getitia J. Matheny, of circleville, Ohio; a sister, Joyce Parker of Midway; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Sophia, with the Rev. Jim Munday officiating. Burial will follow in Hot Coal Cemetery, Sophia. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. with the Rev. Del Dodrill officiating. Additional calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia. Donations of sympathy may be made to the Haven House, Circleville, OH. Arrangements by Oliver Funeral Home, Ashville.
