Harold Eugene Abramson, of Loomis, Nebraska, passed away July 7, 2009 in Holdrege, Nebraska. Harold was born on August 29, 1925 in Phelps County, Nebraska, to Ernest John and Tillie Sophia (Bloomquist) Abramson. Harold began his primary education in Loomis and then attended seven years at Urbana District #43 located two miles south and four miles west of Loomis. He then attended Loomis High School where he played softball, baseball and basketball and graduated with the class of 1942.
In 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for two years during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at the Hanford Atomic Energy Plant in Washington State where he worked with large 120 millimeter guns that were Anti Aircraft Artillery. He obtained the rank of Sergeant when he was honorably discharged in 1953.
Harold had farmed before his call to the military and returned to farming after his service. He loved his cattle, field work and life on the farm.
On December 7, 1963 Harold was united in marriage to Margaret Beilschmidt and to this union three children were born: Ann Marie, Michael William and Robert Eugene. The family made their home in Loomis.
Harold and Margaret enjoyed traveling and visiting Ohio, St. Louis, Missouri, Grand Junction, Colorado, Branson, Missouri, the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota, Pella, Iowa and the Black Hills. Harold was a member of the VFW and received a 50 year membership award from the American Legion. He also enjoyed carrying the flag on Memorial Day. Harold was old fashioned and "down to earth" and liked to play cards at Townmart with his friends.
On April 2, 1999 Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret.
Harold is survived by his three children: Ann Thuernagle and her husband, Brad of Grand Island, Nebraska, Michael Abramson and his wife, Dana of Loomis, Robert Abramson of Stamford, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Alexander and Elizabeth Thuernagle of Grand Island, Andrew, Cale and Joel Abramson all of Loomis; one sister, Doris Elaine Kozlowski and other family and friends.
Besides his parents and wife, Margaret, Harold was preceded in death by two brothers: Sanford John Abramson and Raymond Ernest Abramson; one sister-in-law, Francis Abramson; and one daughter-in-law, Debra Abramson.
