Blacita Romero, age 82, a resident of Las Nutrias, loving mom and nana, peacefully passed away at home on Wednesday, April 4.
She was an active member of the San Isidro Mission in Las Nutrias and was well known in the small community. Blacita was known to her family as the "Welcome Wagon" because of her generosity towards newcomers. She will be remembered for her love of her flower garden and her homemade quilts. Nana loved to be surrounded by her family and enjoyed being the center of attention.
Blacita was married to Ricardo Romero for 63 years and remained at his side until his passing in December, 2006. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working alongside her husband on the farm. Our loving mom and nana will be missed and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
Blacita is survived by her three daughters, Angie Chavez and her husband, Ruben, of Las Nutrias, Elfa Ulibarri, also of Las Nutrias, and Lorraine Chavez and her husband, Delfin, of Belen; her only son, Henry Romero and his wife, Rosalyn, of Las Nutrias; 13 grandchildren, Robert Chavez, Annette Saiz, Michael Chavez, Martha Ulibarri, Kevin Ulibarri, John Chavez, Amanda Espinoza, James Chavez, Kimberly Chavez, Darice, Leslie, Jared and Jana Romero; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Trevino Torrez and his wife, Mary, and Ignacio Torrez; two sisters, Lydia Jaramillo and her husband, Pete, and Albita Romero and her husband, Dan; and many loving nieces and nephews.
All services will be held at the San Isidro Mission, beginning with a public viewing on Sunday, April 8, at 6:30 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Monday, April 9, at 9:30 a.m. with a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. with Father Dennis Dolter presiding. Interment will follow at Las Nutrias Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Chavez, Annette Saiz, Martha Ulibarri, Amanda Espinoza, Kim Chavez, and Darice, Leslie and Jana Romero. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert, Michael and John Chavez, Kevin Ulibarri, and Jared Romero.
