Daniel D. Adkins, 67, of Hulbert died Monday, August 4, 1986, at Tahlequah City Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel with Rev. Renus Warren officiating. Burial will be in Lost City Cemetery with C. L. Lombardi, Carl Coles, Luna Moore, Willard Moore, Gerald Potts and Johnny Dunlap serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be bud Baldridge, Son Baldridge, Jim Workman, Charley Cannon and Barney Mitchell.
He was born January 27, 1919 in Hulbert to Oscar and Mary Smith Adkins and was a lifelong resident of Hulbert. He was a Cattleman and rancher and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He worked for McDonnell Douglas in Tulsa for 17 years and later for Northeastern State University, where he retired in 1984. He was a member of the American Legion.
He married Bessie Potts on June 17, 1942 in Alexandria, Louisiana and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Brenda Steeber and Fonda Fisher, both of Hulbert; seven sisters, Maudie Gordon of Espanola, New Mexico, Marie Dickey and Mabel Adkins both of Afton, Laverne Coffman, Elsie Hayslip, Francis Birdsong and Sarah Hayslip, all of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Jack Adkins of Oklahoma City and William Adkins of Goodland, Kansas; and three granddaughters.
