Beloved father, John Fremont Barnes Jr., went to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 7, 2002.
He was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Pontotoc in Mason County but was raised in Floresville.
He enjoyed his time spent in the ranch country, taking care of the cattle business.
He proudly served in the U.S. Marines, 3rd Division, which landed on Iwo Jima.
His precious, loving wife, Bonnie Creech Barnes, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughters, Kay Clayton and husband Bill, Johnnie Ruth Garrett, and Donna Waller and husband Gary; son Leslie Barnes and wife Marsha; sister Betty Barnes Crews; and many special grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His life was blessed by Betty Perry, Chris Block, and many other loving, serving members from his Liberty Baptist Church family.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, in the Porter Loring Chapel in San Antonio. The Rev. Chris Block officiated the services.
Interment followed in the Marcelina Cemetery in Floresville.
