Donn Becklin died January 12, 2004, at the age of 73. He was preceded in death by his parents. Donn Alden Becklin was born May 3, 1930, in Cambridge, MN, the third of seven children, to Paul Reuben and Harriet Becklin. Donn was united in marriage to another Cambridge High School graduate, Ruth Stanius, June 11, 1952. For their first 10 years of married life, they lived in Minneapolis, returning to Cambridge in 1962 to raise their two daughters and son in the same neighborhood where he had grown up. Following his 1948 graduation from Cambridge High School, Donn was employed as a surveyor for Isanti County. In 1950, he joined the National Guard and a year later was put on active duty during the Korean War. After a move to N.E. Minneapolis, Donn worked for Midland Coop, then following his oldest brother Bob's footsteps, he went to work as a postal clerk at the St. Paul Post Office. Later, he rode the rails of the Milwaukee Road, sorting mail between St. Paul and Chicago. However, without a doubt, the job that he enjoyed the most was working as the manager of the charcoal plant in Isanti for Royal Oak Industries, from which he retired. Throughout his lifetime, Donn was very involved, most often behind the scenes, in many areas of Cambridge Lutheran Church and the Cambridge and Isanti communities. Donn's faith in a loving God was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather. He was a gentle soul and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth; children, Vicki (Larry) Ostrom of Cambridge, Glori (Craig) Sundberg of Mahtomedi, and Craig (Janet) Becklin of North Branch; grandchildren, Erik (20) and Bjork (17) Ostrom, Leif Sundberg (14), and Christopher (15), Matthew (12), and Megan (5) Becklin; siblings, Robert (Joyce) Becklin, Gilbert (Angie) Becklin, Lynn (Lois) Becklin, Eric (Annie) Becklin, Eileen (George) Wilkie, and Galen (Karonne) Becklin; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who loved him. A memorial service was held Jan. 17 from Cambridge Lutheran Church with Rev. Erling Tungseth and Rev. Dennis Tollefson officiating. Mary Falk, accompanied by Elaine Johnson, sang 'One Day At a Time' and 'Precious Lord Take My Hand'. Interment was in Cambridge Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Cambridge Lutheran Church. Arrangements were with Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge.
