"Miss Nellie Allen, deputy clerk of the Board Supervisors, passed away at the county hospital at 7:15 o'clock last night following an attack of pneumonia.
"News of her passing will be received with the very greatest regret throughout the entire community. There are very many people now well in their thirties who had their first schooling in Globe from Miss Allen, who taught altogether for 17 years.
"She became ill on Tuesday. Her absence from duty was noticed and Mrs. Mamie Lou Harrison called at her residence on North Broad Street only to find her seriously ill. The patient was promptly taken to the hospital, where the case was diagnosed as pneumonia. Her condition was regarded as serious from the first.
"It was known yesterday afternoon that the end might come at any time. A number of her friends visited her, but towards the last she was unconscious. Mrs. Harrison remained with her to the end.
"Miss Allen was born in Michigan and came here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James B. Allen in the early 1890s. Her father worked as a miner in the Old Dominion for a number of years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Allen have been dead for many years.
"In addition to working as a teacher, Miss Allen was with the Arizona Steam Laundry for some time and also saw service with office of the Arizona Eastern Railroad. She was in her third year of service with the county when the call came.
"Miss Allen had a genial disposition that endeared her to everyone with whom she came in contact. She was extremely good hearted and her hold on the hearts and minds of the people was a strong one.
"She received her first certificate as a teacher from Probate Judge G. M. Allison, who was ex-officio county superintendent of schools.
"The deceased left three brothers. John Allen is a resident of Kingman and he was expected to arrive late last night or early this morning. An older brother, Martin, who is located at Sacramento, is on the way to Globe. Whereabouts of the third brother, George, are not known other than that he is in California.
"The body is at the Mile Mortuary where it will be held pending the setting of a time for the funeral. It is thought likely the funeral will take place in Globe."
