Donald ABBEY Dies
Donald B. ABBEY, native of Fairfield and longtime lumber dealer in the community, died suddenly about 2 a.m. today in a motel at Decorah.
Mr. and Mrs. ABBEY had gone to northern Iowa Thursday to attend their son's graduation from Vocational Training School at Calmar. Jeff has completed a one-year course in Building Materials Management. Decorah is near Calmar.
The casket is being returned to the Weston Behner Funeral Home where services are pending.
ABBEY joined the Fairfield Lumber Co. in 1938 and was secretary-treasurer of the firm at the time of his death. He also owned the Packwood Lumber Co. at Packwood.
Donald B. ABBEY was born March 24, 1916, in Fairfield, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer B. ABBEY. He was reared and educated in this community. His wife, the former Elsbeth NUTT, survives.
Other survivors include his son, Jeff, two daughters, Mrs. Jerry HARRIS, Chicago, and Mrs. Gary FETTERS, Tulsa, Okla., and four grandchildren; also two brothers, Earl ABBEY, Sr., at Fairfield, and Allen ABBEY, Davenport; and a sister, Elizabeth HOOTMAN, San Benito, Texas.
The family home is located at 706 N. Third.

ABBEY Rites On Tuesday
Funeral services for Donald B. ABBEY will be Tuesday, May 31 at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home.
The Rev. J.E. Dorman will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
ABBEY, a longtime lumber dealer in Fairfield, died about 5 a.m. Friday in the Decorah Hospital. He was stricken about 2 a.m. in a motel and had been taken to the hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. ABBEY had gone to Decorah to attend their son's graduation at the Vocational Training School at Calmar where Jeff had completed a course in Building Materials Management. Decorah is near Calmar.
The casket was returned to Fairfield by plane, arriving in Fairfield Friday afternoon.
In addition to his duties at the Fairfield Lumber Co. where he had been in business since 1938, ABBEY took an active part in civic and social affairs.
He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the First Christian Church, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites, Shrine Club, Elks Lodge, American Legion and Iowa Lumber Dealers Association.
