Five-year-old JOHNNY EVANS, who was just beginning to love his new home and especially the front lawn hill that made his scooter go so fast, was killed almost instantly this morning when his little three-wheeled scooter carried him directly into the path of an automobile in the 2800 block of Virginia Avenue. Within a few minutes of his admittance to the Washington County Hospital, Johnny, whose full name was JOHN GEORGE DALLINGER EVANS, died of a crushed skull.

Johnny came to live in Hagerstown from the cold of Petersborough, NH, last Sunday and this morning was enjoying one of Maryland's first fine spring days. Warmly clad and with his sturdy scooter he thought the equal of any big old automobile, he had just begun to play when down the embankment of the front lawn he shot and out across the pike directly into the path of machine of ... who was headed toward Williamsport and told the Deputy Sheriff that he didn't see the boy until he was on top of him. He said the little fellow came from the back of a passing car and that it was so sudden he couldn't even so much as swerve.

Johnny was the eldest son of George A. and Lucy Dallinger Evans. The father is employed by the Fairchild Corporation and the family came here Sunday from New Hampshire, total strangers to Hagerstown.

The parents and a younger son, Dean Alexander Evans, survive. A grandfather of Johnny is said to be a Federal judge in NY State.

The body was removed to the Suter Funeral Home and will be shipped north for funeral services and burial.
