1928—2011

Gerardus A. "Gerard" Antonis, resident of the Hickory Withe Community, retired Machinist and husband of the late Saryati S. Antonis died Monday morning, June 20, 2011 at the Dove Health & Rehabilitation Center in Collierville where he had been a resident for 10 days. He was 82 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Antonis will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday, June 30th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel. Remarks and eulogy will be given by family and friends. Interment will be in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64 and a visitation will be at the Peebles West Chapel one hour before services. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Antonis was born August 1, 1928 in Valkenswaard, Holland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matheise Antonis and Josephina Schoonaerts Antonis. Mr. Antonis was educated in Holland and married June 15, 1951 the former Saryati Sjahrial who preceded him in death on March 13, 2002.

He and his family came to the United States in 1960 and they made their home in California where he was employed as a Machinist for the Johnson Pump Company in Pasadena for 28 years before retiring. He and his family moved to the Big Bell area in the Hickory Withe Community and where they have made their home for the past 20 years.

A patriotic person who loved America and Christianity, Mr. Antonis served in the Dutch resistance from age 12 to age 17 and served in the Dutch military from age 17 to age 22. He was a coal miner in Belgium for 10 years and came to America 50 years ago.

Mr. Antonis was a Spirit filled man who enjoyed sharing the Word of God to everyone. His interests included horses in earlier years and fishing and caring for his yard after retirement.

Mr. Antonis is survived by a daughter: Siti Antonis of Hickory Withe; a son: Roesli Antonis of Modesto, California, a sister: Wilhelmina Smulders of San Luis Obispo, California and a grandson: Connor Antonis of Modesto, California.

Family members and friends will serve as casketbearers and the family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
