Funeral services for Sarah Elizabeth Akers, 102, were conducted Feb 4, at the Exira Christian Church, with Pastor Robert Hennick officiating. Interment was in the Exira Cemetery. Casket bearers were Craig Akers, Kenneth Akers, Todd Akers, Scott Boggs, Cheyenne McClain, Laverne Akers, Michael Akers and Dean Chesnut.

Sarah Elizabeth Akers, the daughter of John and Minnie Littlefield Martin, was born April 4, 1903, at her parents' home east of Exira in Audubon Township, Audubon County, and died Feb. 2, 2006, at the Exira Care Center in Exira.

Beth was baptized at the Exira Christian Church. She attended rural school Audubon No. 3 (the Ludwig School). She attended high school in Exira, graduated with the High School Class of 1922. She taught rural school for a short time.

On Oct. 24, 1924, she was united in marriage to Harold Lincoln Akers at the Episcopal parsonage in Audubon. She finished teaching the fall term and they operated several farms in the area. In 1939, they purchased a farm south of Exira, which they operated for seven years, then purchased a nearby farm. They operated the farm until they retired in 1970 and moved into Exira. Harold died in 1993. Beth continued to live in her home until she moved to the Salem Lutheran Home and later the Exira Care Center.

Beth was a member of the Exira Christian Church in Exira and was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a member of the Exira Garden Club and a member of the "Merry Meeters," a neighborhood club.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband, were her son, Norman Akers and wife, Irene; her grandson, Duane Akers; daughter-in-law, Eva Mae Akers; her parents, her brothers: Cecil and wife, Alma Martin; Basil and wife, Kathryn Martin, Kermit Martin, Cassius and wife, Lillian Martin.
