Clyde Chester Arnold, son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson D. Arnold was born near Roberts, Illinois, May 10, 1888, and died at St John's Hospital Springfield, Minnesota, Saturday, February 23rd, 1918, aged 29 years, 9 months and 8 days. His death was caused by an accident in which he was badly burned Thursday, February 21st, at his home at Wanda, Minnesota, after which he was removed to the hospital where he lived for two days.
The deceased spent his boyhood days with his parents here. When he was 21 years of age he went to Alberta, Canada, where he filed a claim to a homestead. He afterward returned to Roberts and two years ago he and his brother Roger went to Wanda, Minnesota, to manage a farm of his father's at that place, where they resided at the time of the accident.
Clyde was always a good boy, very ambitious, energetic, kind and courteous to all. His mother was his sole confident and companion and his demise is a great shock and sorrow to her especially, also to his father, brothers, and sister, and a host of other relatives and friends. In his everyday life he was one of those who attended strictly to his own affairs and never tried to make himself conspicuous, but as a friend he was one who could be depended upon at all times and one who held his word, once pledged sacred, one who acted upon the principle that honesty, truthfulness and upright conduct is to be preferred to wealth or any superficial honors that might be bestowed. He leaves to mourn his death his father and mother, brothers, Mike and Roger of Minnesota, David and Henry Ernest of Roberts and sister Samantha at home; his grandmother Arnold, and many other relatives. One brother Amos died a number of years ago.
The funeral services were held at the Congregational Church in Roberts, Tuesday February 25, at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Carl A. Glover officiating after which the remains were laid to rest in Lyman cemetery.
