Born in Columbus May 15, 1947, he was the son of Arthur and Maye Moore Artist. He married Wanda J. Barnes Dougherty on October 16, 1999, at Ten-Buc-2 in Brown County.
Mr. Artist was a 1965 graduate of Brown County High School and a 1969 graduate of Indiana State university. He was a former industrial arts teacher at Brown County High School, was a self-employed heavy equipment operator and, most recently, worked at Bartholomew County Solid Waste Authority.
He was a member of the Rocky Ford Free Methodist Church and continued to have close ties with that church and Harmony Baptist Church in Brown County. He love nature and the outdoors, spending time with friends and taking care of his farm, Ten-Buc-2, in Brown County.
Survivors include his wife; stepdaughters, Angie (Andy) Wiggins of Indianapolis and Tricia (Jim) Brookover of Columbus, Georgia; grandchildren, Sarah Grace and Caroline Wiggins, Elizabeth Brookover and Baby Brookover, who will arrive in December; a brother, Marvin (Pam) Artist of Columbus; sisters, Lou Ann Butler of Nashville and Sue (Jerry) Anderson of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, James L. Butler.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 18, at the Rocky Ford Free Methodist Church with the Reverend Brian Buterbaugh officiating. Cremation followed the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rocky Ford Free Methodist Church or Harmony Baptist Church.
