Sons of Pioneer Stock Die in Different Hospitals
But of the Same Disease

George Bales, age 72, a life long resident of Dana, died yesterday shortly after noon at the Vermillion county hospital and his brother, Frank Bales, age 62, of Crawfordsville died early today at the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis, where he had been a patient.
Both men were born on the old Bales homestead near Dana, where their father William Bales, was also born. They were brothers of Mrs. J. O. Staats and Mrs. J. D. Sturm, both of whom were prominent Dana women and both of whom are now dead.

George Bales was taken to the Vermillion County Hospital Sunday while his brother has been for a longer period in the Indianapolis hospital. Both died of Brights disease. With their death, the last of their generation on a sturdy pioneer family in this county is gone.

George Bales has been for many years on of the most successful and progressive farmers in the county. He was a member of the Methodist church. Surviving are his wife and his son William, who was the son of his first wife, Jennie Vanness of this city. She died many years ago.

Funeral services are to be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o ‘clock at the Bono church and burial is to be in Riverside cemetery at Clinton.

Frank Bales after leaving Dana lived for many years in Monticello when he was a veterinarian. He moved to Crawfordsville a number of years ago in order that his five sons might attend Wabash college. He has made his home on a farm near this city since leaving Monticello. His wife died about three years ago. The five sons, Harold, Carl, Frederick, Robert and James, survive.

Henry and Ed Bales, prominent Dana citizens are cousins of the two brothers.

The funeral arrangements for Frank Bales have not been announced relatives stated today.
