George came with Samuel and Leonard Barkhurst to this county in 1829and located in the vicinity of Stockwell
George was a trustee of the Methodist Church in Jefferson County, Ohio, in 1804. He moved westward and stopped in Butler County before crossing over to Dearborn county, Indiana. He proceeded to Tippecanoe county, Indiana around 1829. George was a very religious man and contributed at least part of the money for the Barcus Chapel which was the first place of worship in Tippecanoe county, the chapel was in use until 1864 at which time a new building was erected in the village of Stockwell. The Methodist are still holding their services in this church, built in 1864. George and Rachel had the following children. Jeremiah, born April 26, 1799 in Kentucky, and died September 04, 1852 in Sullivan County, Indiana; Lemuel born about 1795, in Tippecanoe county; William; Isaac, born about 1805 in Ohio; Samuel born 1820-1830; Enoch George born about 1819; Jesse Finley; Rachel; Margaret; Tamazon, born Mar 26, 1814; Armstrong Ross, born October 24, 1810; and Sarah, born 1816.
George had a brother born September 17, 1783 whom married Mariah Butler. William was a farmer in Tippecanoe & White county, Indian, and also in the hotel business. He was in merchandising in southeastern Missouri. His wife is buried at Shafer Cemetery north of Monticello, Indiana. They had five children; Samuel, William, George, Nathan and Nancy. He also had another brother, Samuel whom married Martha Ann Meek. They had fifteen children. A brother, Jesse married Nancy Ann Roseman. They had eight children.
