COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Mary Edith Abels, 85, Colorado Springs, formerly of Savannah, Mo., died February 19, 2010 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home In Paris, Monroe County Missouri at 6:00 p.m. due to Failure to Thrive and dementia.

She had relocated to be closer to her nephew and informant on her death certificate, Wayne Mitchell.

Preceded: parents, Thomas George and Rada Mae Leeson Abels; sisters, Virginia Keling, Florida Holstrom, Naomi Barth, and Rachel Rice.
Survivors: brother, William Abels; numerous nieces and nephews.

She never married and always took care of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own.A religious woman, she always had a Bible nearby, and she read stories to her nieces and nephews. She was a retired nurse's aid

Graveside funeral services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Savannah (Mo.) City Cemetery.
Arrangements: Garner Funeral Home and Chapel, Monroe City, Mo.

She is buried near her mother and father.
