Richard Wayne Bird, 84, of Byron, passed away June 21st at Maple Manor Care Center in Rochester.
He was born May 8, 1926, in Kalmar Township. He was a veteran who served in WWII in Germany, and returned home to own and operate a dairy farm. He later joined the U.S. Postal Service as the rural mail carrier for Route 1 Byron, retiring after 26 years of service. He married Connie Schei in Rochester on June 21, 1950.
In addition to his wife, Connie, he is survived by two sons, Terry (Julie) Bird and Rick (Ja-Neen) Bird, both of Byron; two daughters, Cheryl Schaefer (Gary) of Byron and Tracy Winslow (Richard-deceased) of Rochester; 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Koenig of Rochester; and a brother, Fred Bird of Kasson.
Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 24th, at Christ Lutheran Church, 201 Frontage Rd., Byron, MN 55920, and one hour before the service on Friday. The funeral is at Christ Lutheran Church on Friday, June 25th, at 2 p.m. Pastors James Peterson and Robert Kleinke will officiate.
Burial will be in the Byron Cemetery; the Byron American Legion will conduct military graveside services.
