BYRON -- A memorial service for Mildred B. Bird will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Byron United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Mead officiating. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery.
Mrs. Bird, 102, formerly a longtime Byron resident, died Sunday (Sept. 2, 2007) at Maple Manor Health Care and Rehabilitation in Rochester.
Mildred Belle Schlee was born Aug. 16, 1905, in Littleport, Iowa. When she was 5, her family moved to Kalmar Township, in the Rochester area, and she later graduated from high school in Rochester. On Oct. 23, 1923, she married Joseph E. Bird in Rochester. She worked as a homemaker, raising her children; her husband was a farmer. Mrs. Bird lived in Byron for many years until moving to Maple Manor in Rochester nine years ago. She loved playing bingo and cards, and being with her friends and family.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Koenig; two sons, Richard (Connie) and Fred (Carol); eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, a sister and a grandson.
Macken Funeral Home of Rochester is in charge of arrangements.
