He was born November 20, 1940 to Robert R. and Dorothy F. (Dutcher) Amburgey in Sparta, MI.
Les proudly served his country in the US Army in Vietnam as part of the 299th Combat Engineers. They became the brotherhood known as the Dak To Defenders. On September 12, 1975 he married the former Vivian E. Shade in Belton, TX. Les was employed as a heat-treater for Federal Mogul for 25 years retiring in 2003. He was a member of Black Creek Bible Church and a life member of VFW Post #446. He was an avid hunter and fisherman but most of all enjoyed his family and attending the grandchildren’s sporting events.
Les is SURVIVED by his wife of 38 years, Vivian; his sons, Lester P. (Tommasa) Amburgey of Long Beach, CA, Earl E. (Stefanie) Leiter, Brian K. Leiter, and Robert C. (Laura) Amburgey, all of Muskegon; grandchildren, Rubin, Bruce Jr., Jacob, Lucus, Machiah, April, Jacelyn, Synara, Boaz, Moryah and Mike; great-grandchildren, Allanah, Trenton, and Adrian ; his brother, Howard (Margie) Amburgey; sisters, Debbie (Fred) Hoeker and Terri (Jeff) Hanson; sister -in-law Lucy Amburgey, brothers-in-law, Carl Draher and Dennis Shade; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sheila C. Amburgey, stepson, Bruce A. Leiter Sr., and a brother, Donald Amburgey.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 1 PM Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Black Creek Bible Church, 2651 Heights Ravenna Rd., with Rev. Lawrence Bush officiating and Full Military Rites afforded under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #446. VISITATION will begin at 11:30 AM. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
