Funeral services for Frances Elizabeth Adams, 91, of Rantoul, formerly of Hillsboro, are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. in the Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Pastor Steve Revisky will officiate, and burial will be in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Honey Bend. Military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held at Bass Patton Dean's an hour prior to the services.

Mrs. Adams died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at 11:17 p.m. in the Heartland Health Care Center of Paxton. She was born on Jan. 5, 1918, in Dunlap, MO, to John S. and Hazel A. (Wathen) Asher.

She and George P. Diederick married at Mt. Rainier, MO, on May 4, 1946; he preceded her in death. She later married Donald McGiles in Paxton on Feb. 28, 1965; he also preceded her in death. She married George William Adams on Oct. 12, 1991, in Butler; he preceded her on Dec. 8, 2002.

Her parents; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Payne; a stepson, Leroy Adams; two brothers, S. Earl Asher and Charles Asher; and a sister, O. Christine Post also preceded her.

She is survived by one daughter, Jean Asher of Rantoul; twelve stepchildren, George P. Diederick, Jr., Catherine Vann, Terry Garcia, Dennis McGiles, Sue McGiles, Louise Simmons, Bonnie Davis, David Adams, Robert Adams, Georgia Williams, John Adams, and Barbara Flitz; stepdaughter-in-law Dorothy Adams; three grandchildren, Daniel Swanstrom II (Lisa Culbersom), Sandra K. Moore, and Andrea M. Brewster; nine great-grandchildren, Daniel L. Swanstrom III, Nathaniel Swanstrom, Sidney Nicole Swanstrom, Ashley E. Moore, Nathan A. Moore, Dillon Moore, Seth Moore, D.J. Brewster, and Sydni Brewster; one great-great-grandchild, Mikaiya C. Moore; and one brother, John Gavin Asher of Moberly, MO.

A graduate of Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1941, she became a First Lt. flight nurse in the Army Nurse Corps and served in the Azores during WWII.

In civilian life she lived in Trenton, MO, Hillsboro, Springfield, Des Moines, IA, Paxton, and Rantoul. She retired from nursing in 1991.

She belonged to the Christian Church of Litchfield and the Rantoul Christian Church. Her memberships also included V.F.W. Post #1306 in Taylor Springs and V.F.W. Auxiliary #6628 of Panama, where she maintained her membership for 56 years.
