Ruth Irene Allman, 84, of 540 E. McLean St., died at 11:55 am Oct. 20, 2010, at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
She was born Sept. 25, 1926, in Ottumwa to Floyd and Mary Palmer Ritter. She married Gerald Pierson. He preceded her in death. She married Earl Allman Sept. 22, 1962. He preceded her in death Jan. 22, 2004.
A resident of Ottumwa all of her life, she worked 29 years for John Morrell and Co., retiring in 1973. She was also an Avon representative for many years.
She was a member of Zion Church of God.
Surviving are two sons, Gerald "Junior" (Rita)Pierson of Morristown, Tenn.; stepchildren, Kermit Allman of Eldon, Vickie Swinscoe of San Antonio, Texas, Melvin Allmon of Ottumwa and Becky Thibodeaux of Hitchcock, Texas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Hall of California and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Pierson; a daughter, Judy Hartley; a brother, Earl Ritter; and a sister, Helen Steele.
Funeral services will be 3 pm Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Jesse Elkins officiating. Burial will be in Blakesburg Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 1 pm today at the funeral home with the family present from 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Church of God or Hospice, Ottumwa, Iowa.
