Rachel's birth was most likely in October of 1841 rather than what appears to be 1846 on her headstone. She claimed this date in the 1900 Federal census. Other records state 1842.
She was a pre-teen when her family moved from Rockford, Illinois to Mason City, Iowa in the spring of 1854. It was here that she met her 1st future husband, Thomas William Andrews. They were married on Nov. 16, 1856. They had two children, Thomas (abt. 1858-after 1900) and Anna U. Andrews (1861-1917).
In 1860, Rachel and Thomas were living in Clinton Co., MO with their firstborn child. This is his last known record.
Rachel second married James S. Williams on Dec. 25, 1873 in Boone Co., AR. No known children. He was a veteran of the Civil War, serving with the 6th Iowa Infantry Regiment for four years, discharged on July 21, 1865.
This marriage also became splintered, most likely before 1900. He died at age 81 at the South Dakota State Soldiers Home for veterans in Hot Springs, SD in 1924.
Rachel spent several of her later years with her granddaughter, Anna Talitha James in Missouri. She was 97 at the time of her passing and buried under her first husband's surname.
